Ronald Leonard Pybus

10 March 1942 – April 2023

Ronald 'Ron' Pybus passed away in 2023, aged 80. His wife, Lyn has shared an obituary.

After leaving school Ron started his long career working in libraries as a library assistant for Salford City Council and retired as Director of Libraries, Museums and Arts for Wiltshire Council (1984-1996). He obtained his M.A. in 1976 after Manchester City Council offered him the post to head up a new development of a public library in the Manchester University complex, designed to bring together, 'Town and Gown.' It was the first library in the UK to loan books, records and works of art. Although Ron had achieved Fellowship of the Library Association, a degree was required in order to ensure 'academic acceptance' and his Masters Management Degree was obtained through ÿÈÕ³Ô¹Ï.

Ron also wrote several books on how to build and construct a mobile library, planning a mobile library route, etc. Ron worked for the UK Audit Commission as a consultant, producing a guide for auditors on the management of books in libraries. He self published a book on the subject which is now out of print and sold across the world.

After retiring from public libraries, always a keen amateur photographer Ron obtained an A* in photography at college and started taking photographic commissions. He qualified and became a Regional Chairman and Director of the Master Photographers Association.

Aged 70, Ron took up model trains, becoming Chairman of the West Wiltshire Model Railway Circle during his final retirement.

His final book was published by Crowood Press Ltd., and was entitled 'Designing and Building Model Railway Baseboards'.
